Talks about Alonso replacing Rosberg at Mercedes (News, Formula 1)

Rosberg’s decision to retire early from the world of Formula 1 racing was surprising news for everyone. Along with Nico Rosberg’s retirement from the Formula 1 racing scene, Mercedes has not yet decided who will be appointed as Rosberg’s replacement. However, some circles say that Fernando Alonso is at the forefront to replace Rosberg. The discourse of Alonso replacing Rosberg has been widely heard in line with the statement made by the Mercedes boss on one of the sports media, Sky Sports.

Toto Wolff as Mercedes team boss does not deny that he wants McLaren driver Fernando Alonso to replace Rosberg as Lewis Hamilton’s partner. As he told Sky Sports, “You have to consider Fernando. He (Fernando) is a racer who I respect quite a lot. He is a combination of talent, speed and experience. It’s all on him.”

Even though Wolff did not hide his intention to bring Fernando Alonso to Mercedes, this was not an easy matter. Fernando himself is still tied to McLaren until 2017. If Wolff wants to bring the Spaniard to Mercedes, of course he must be prepared to dig deep into his pockets.

“He (Alonso) is currently still under contract with McLaren-Honda. “Therefore we have to consider all other existing options and possibilities,” added Wolff, quoted by Sky Sports.

It is not yet certain who will replace Rosberg at Mercedes and become Hamilton’s new partner, but Wolff has definitely thought of several names who will replace Rosberg. It is worth waiting for developments regarding the drivers who will be appointed by Mercedes as Hamilton’s new partners in order to continue Mercedes’ dominance in the Formula 1 arena.
