The self-driving Jaguar I-Pace EV prototype will join Waymo’s own Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid car in its rapidly growing fleet of autonomous prototypes. Like Pacifica Hybrids, the I-Pace vehicles will be used to transport customers using Waymo’s app-based ride-hailing service, but will serve as a high-end premium option over minivans.

According to Waymo boss John Krafcik, the company is currently focusing on Waymo to build the most experienced drivers in the world. The team at Jaguar Land Rover has developed a new battery electric platform that looks to set new standards in safety, design and capability. The company also believes that Waymo drivers will enjoy the safe, premium and enjoyable experience that the self-driving I-PACE will provide.

Meanwhile, Jaguar CEO Prof. Dr. Ralf Speth expanded on Krafcik’s comments. In his statement he said that the company’s passion to further advance intelligent mobility requires expert long-term partners. In joining Waymo, Jaguar is pioneering in pushing the boundaries of technology. Together with Waymo, Jaguar will deliver the self-driving Waymo Jaguar I-PACE with the ecological elegance, space and speed that customers expect.

The Waymo-Jaguar partnership will last until 2026. So we’ll see self-driving I-Pace SUVs on the road in the next few decades, as long as everything goes according to plan. The Jaguar I-Pace will enter production later this year before going on sale in Q3 or Q4. It’s unclear when the first Waymo-operated I-Pace vehicle might occur, but we shouldn’t be surprised to see the company start taking deliveries before the end of the year.[]
