12 Motorcycle Clutch Components

You need to know, motorbikes have various components and one of them is the clutch component. The clutch itself is a part whose use is very important for all types of vehicles.

The development of the times and technology is increasingly rapid, each motorbike manufacturer makes manual transmission motorbikes which are operated by a clutch component.

There are several types of motorbikes that now use clutches to operate transmission gears, including:

However, what differentiates the way a manual motorbike clutch works from an automatic is that you pull the clutch handle and release it slowly.

Types of Clutch Components and Their Functions

1. Primary Drive Gear

You need to know, actually for this motorbike clutch system there is no Flywheel part like the car clutch component.

Therefore, the mechanism will not work in line with the engine axis.

So what is the function of this Primary Drive Gear? Namely, it functions to connect the rotation originating from the engine crank to the clutch primary gear.

If you don’t know what a primary gear looks like, it is round and small. Usually these teeth are located in the engine block which is located on the right side.

2. Primary Driven Gear

Another motorbike clutch component is the Primary Driven Gear. If the motorbike clutch system does not have a flywheel, this primary gear replaces its function.

If we look, this part is also connected to other clutch components which function to rotate the pressure plate in the clutch.

You need to know, the shape of the Primary Driven Gear is different from the Primary Drive Gear, namely the shape looks bigger, because its function is to increase the comparison of the gear parts.

3. Clutch Cover

For the third motorbike clutch component, it is located attached to the primary gear of the clutch.

As explained above, the function of the Clutch Cover is to connect the rotation originating from the primary gear to the pressure plate.

This component uses a clutch plate and pressure plate. Now the pressure plate will rotate according to the rotation produced by the clutch primary gear.

4. Multi Clutch Plate

What is a Multi Clutch Plate? It is a motorbike clutch component which is often called a clutch plate, the location of this part is in the middle between the pressure plates.

The function of the clutch plate itself is as a medium for receiving rotation coming from the pressure plate.

For its position, the Clutch Plate is connected to the transmission axis. So if the transmission gear is in neutral (free), then this component does not rotate because it follows the primary gear and pressure plate.

5. Multi Friction Plate

The fifth component is the Multi Friction Plate, where this part is located in the middle of the Clutch Plate.

However, this Multi Friction Plate component is not connected to the transmission axis, but is connected to the primary gear.

When discussing its function, the Multi Friction Plate itself functions to connect the rotation produced by the clutch primary gear to the transmission parts by means of friction.

So, in this clutch area, the location of the Multi Friction Plate is intersecting with the clutch plate. Because the aim is to strengthen and last longer in wet conditions.

This part is of course very different from the clutch plate, for the Multi Friction Plate it has claws that are connected to the Clutch Cover part.

That is the answer to why this component can rotate in accordance with the primary gear.

6. Center Gear

The Center Gear is located on the transmission axis and has several gears which function as clutch lining media.

Then, the main function of the Center Gear is the part that can channel the rotation of the clutch lining to the transmission axis.

So what does Center Gear look like? The shape is slightly elongated which functions to make the clutch lining move and spread across the surface.

If the clutch lining (Friction Plate) is far from the Clutch Plate, then rotation will not occur in the clutch part.

7. Pressure Plates

The pressure plate is a pressure plate that is located on the outside of the clutch block. What’s the function like?

Namely, it functions as a tool that presses the Clutch Plate components into the inside, so that the Clutch Plate can press the clutch lining to connect power,

So what does this Pressure Plate look like? This is not exactly the same as the shape of a motorbike clutch lining, but what makes it different is the size which appears to be smaller.

8. Pressure Spring

The pressure spring is a motorbike clutch component which is located inside the pressure plate. The function of this component is as a source of power (power) to press the clutch plate.

As for its location, this component is located in a rotary manner surrounded by a Pressure Plate.

9. Release Fork

Realese Fork is a part that functions as a jack to control the Pressure Plate.

Meanwhile, the mechanism works, this component moves to free and press the link between the Friction Plate and the clutch plate.

This Realese Fork will have the task of providing convenience in the clutch component working process, because the Realese Fork is only a jack.

However, what moves it is still the clutch part which is supplied by the clutch cable.

10. Clutch Adjuster

This component is located on the outside of the engine block cover. The function of the Clutch Adjuster is to regulate the shortness or depth of the clutch.

Of course, every motorbike user definitely has different characteristics, some like using a short clutch, and there are even those who prefer using a long clutch.

The presence of this component can certainly help all of you in adjusting the clutch settings to the characteristics of vehicle use.

11. Clutch Handle

The clutch handle or in mechanical language better known as the Clutch Handle has the function of regulating the way the clutch works which is directly regulated by the driver.

So, this component can be said to be a medium for working on all motorbike components.

12. Clutch Cable

A clutch cable is a cable made of copper, shaped like a wire which has high strength and is of course very flexible.

Because the function of the clutch cable is that it is used as a medium to connect the power provided by the clutch lever to the Realese Fork.

You can adjust its use directly, for example from a short or long setting.
