Quantum Computers Optimize Traffic Flow (News, Automotive Basics, Encyclopedia, Oto Community, OtoLife)

Teknikimobil.com – Crazy idea? Possible. Because the word quantum is certainly still foreign to the ears of the Indonesian people. Especially quantum computers. But if we want to read more, quantum is not a foreign word but it is not the only one used in the expression “quantum learning”. What I mean by quantum is the concept of physics or quantum mechanics in physics and this is applied to a computer. This quantum computer to optimize traffic flow was recently initiated by the German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen .

Quantum Computer Optimizes Traffic Flow by Volkswagen

Even though it is currently being hit by quite complicated problems related to the diesel engine car scandal , apparently Volkswagen is still moving forward. If previously we heard that VW was developing a lithium-ion battery which could be a crazy idea, this time it’s even crazier. VW this time is trying to solve traffic problems using quantum computers.

Volkswagen launched a world’s first pilot project, namely traffic optimization using quantum computers. The launch of this project was carried out in Lisbon Portugal.

In this project, VW involved MAN buses. They equipped MAN buses from public transport provider Carris with a traffic management system developed in-house. The system uses a D-Wave quantum computer. This system is able to calculate the fastest route for each of the nine buses involved and in almost real-time.

With this system, passenger travel time will be reduced drastically. Even during peak traffic periods and traffic flow will be improved.

Volkswagen is testing a traffic optimization system during the webSummit technology conference in Lisbon from November 4 to 8. During the conference, buses will transport thousands of passengers through Lisbon’s city traffic.

In the future, Volkswagen plans to develop its traffic optimization system until it reaches the market. For this reason, Volkswagen developers have designed the system so that it can generally be applied to any city. Of course, also consider the various sizes of existing vehicles.

Further pilot projects for cities in Germany and other European countries are being considered. Volkswagen believes that such a traffic optimization system could be offered to public transport companies, taxi companies or fleet operators.
